I am in love, in love with our new location!!! WOW, we are so blessed to have found this place, and have it set up so well. Thank you so much for all who helped with the move!
There are many things coming up in March, hang on tight. We have two projects for community service, a Black Belt camp and another four weeks of our "Peace is More Important than Punches" program. March is also tournament month with a huge tournament in Springfield, MO on April 5. Read on!

| March Community Service |
We are going to be raising money for two very worthy projects in March. First is financial aid for one of our black belts (who will remain nameless), who at the tender age of 19, is raising her three siblings (both parents have passed away). The other is our Alabama Project.
Our fund raising will take place on Saturday, March 29 at our school. We will all be breaking five boards and seeking donations for the board breaking, and our goal is to raise $5,000. Two Thousand will go to our black belt in need, and three thousand to go toward the Alabama Project.

| Black Belt in Need |
Operation Black Belt in Need, is going to help one of our own. This young lady is raising her three siblings on her own at the tender age of 19 (both of her parents passed away).
This awesome young lady has been attending nursing school, while working and taking care of her brothers and sisters.
A few weeks ago, she had a car wreck and totaled her car. Her insurance covered the car, but the value of the car was not much in the first place. With her deductible, it is leaving her with not much to get another vehicle. If we can raise $2,000 for this young lady, it be enough money for a strong down payment on a decent vehicle.
If anyone can offer any assistance in this area, maybe you have an old car we can purchase from you, know someone who does, or maybe you would like to just donate money, please let me know! |
| Alabama Project |
For the fourth year in row and my third year participating, members of the national "Ultimate Black Belt Test", our local "Ultimate Black Belt Challenge", and our martial arts organization "The 100", along with a lot of students and friends, will be raising money for - and then BUILDING a house for a family in need in Greensboro, Alabama. This project is organized by Tom Callos, the Team Coach for the National "Ultimate Black Belt Test" and "The 100", which are two groups that our school is a big part of. Another person who is highly involved is our leader while we are there and housing activist Pam Dorr (click on her name to see a film about Pam made by UBBT member and Academy Award winning filmmaker Nancy Walzog).
Members of our school, UBBT 5, along with UBBT Alumni (and always, students & friends) are planning on traveling to Greensboro, AL April 16-20, to build a house and move a family in, in a just 4 days.
In my two years working with the Alabama project, we have taken students from our school, and my 15 year old daughter. I promise it to be a life changing and fulfilling experience. Please participate by going, please participate by donating or participate in the board breaking. There are several reasons I ask you to go:
- This is one of the poorest regions in America (known as The Black Belt).
- We go to meet new people and other martial arts enthusiasts and exchange ideas -under the most extraordinary of circumstances.
- We go to honor the famous architect/teacher, Samuel Mockbee and his work with The Rural Studio; AND, we go to honor the work of the Mockbee inspired activists Pam Dorr and John Bielenberg of Project M (Maine, Messages and Mockbee). John is a famous teacher, too!
- We go to practice PROJECT-BASED LEADERSHIP TRAINING (PBLT), a concept where martial arts teachers across the country help young students name, organize and initiate community-based projects as a way to take their martial arts "out of the dojo and into the world" ---and to learn experientially, leadership. This is the national event that serves as the model for 100's of other events in communities around the world, and will have a profound effect on the projects we do in Northwest Arkansas.
- We go to honor two great proponents of non-violent conflict resolution and civil rights, Dr. Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks, who both lived and/or worked in this area.
- We go to change a family's life, their life chances, and give them a well-built home filled with love and respect.
We are seeking a little donation money from a LOT of people! A lot of MARTIAL ARTS PEOPLE, their students, friends and family members. We have more than 100 schools participating --which means for just a few dollars a week for the next two months, you can help some martial arts master REALLY PRACTICE mastery ----and you can participate in an award-winning, revolutionary, industry-changing event with some of the most important and pro-active teachers/practitioners in the world. |
